  • Notes
    • "They kept a mercer and draper shop in Wigton, and acquired considerable property. The Quakers Meeting in Wigton is built on two acres of land given by my grandfather Irwin. Grandfather Richard Irwin died young, and left my grandmother considerable property during her life, and at her death, a great part of it went to my mother's brother, who died and left one daughter, who now enjoys it.

Wigton is a beautiful market town, eleven miles west of Carlisle, and there I used to be sent every Christmas to spend my holidays with my Wigton grandmother, who never failed to send a Christmas pie to each of us as long as she lived; a large one to our parents, and a small one to each of us little ones, with our several names on them. The family of the Irwins are all buried in the Friends graveyard at Wigton." [1,2]
